Flags at the Courthouse - Flag Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day

Memorial Day - Place flags at St. Stanislaus, Bandera, & Medina Oak Rest, West Prong Cemeteries.

Veterans in the Classroom – Demonstrations, flag ceremony, patriotic books at Alkek Elementary.
Flag Retirement – Collection point for unserviceable flags & conduct retirement ceremonies.
Youth – mentoring, Boys State, Academic Decathlon judges, Back to School Bash.
Bandera Pro Rodeo – Admissions & Other Support means free admission for veterans/military.
Student Recognition: Bandera & Medina – Awards to all seniors entering military service and scholarships.
Veterans Day – Host, organize & execute Bandera Honors Veterans events. Military and family displays, music &
guest speaker program, parade, and veterans/spouse free barbecue.
Blood Drive – Coordinate monthly Blood Drives across Bandera County.
Facility Support – Provide use of Legion Hall to nonprofits: Bandera Wranglers, Bandera County Retired Teacher Association, Bandera County Historical Commission, Bikers Against Child Abuse, Frontier Times Museum, Hill Country Veteran Beekeepers Others use by donation: family & business events.
Veteran Employment – Assist veterans in writing quality resumes and job search.
County Veteran Service Officer – Assist Veterans/families in accessing earned VA benefits: assist with outreach.
Police Week Vigil – Est’d first 24-hour vigil at County Courthouse in honor of law enforcement in 2022.
National Day of Prayer - Established the first annual event at Bandera County Courthouse in 2022.
Americanism – National Voter Registration Day – September 28, 2021, Wreaths Across America – Oak Rest
Patriotic Speaking/Writing – Members speak at funerals, patriotic events & groups, write articles.
Veteran Visits – ICW the Auxiliary, routinely provides care packages and visits to shut-in veterans.
Community Outreach – Free quarterly Community Breakfasts… Student Service Hours – Drop Off US Flags.
Post Everlasting – Recognize departed veterans via the Post Everlasting Ceremony at services.
Bandera High School – Support to Naval Junior ROTC program: guest speakers, inspections, events.
American Legion Riders 157 – Monthly meeting and rides – Legacy Run to DC Memorial Day 2023, Patriot Guard.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 157 – Support to veterans and families and many other programs.
American Legion Post #157
supports the Naval Junior ROTC Program at Bandera High School.
Christopher "Preacher" Dion honors our fallen police officers at the 24hr vigil during Natoinal Police Week.
On Tuesday, May 17, 2022 : Addison Derry of Medina
High School was awarded a $1000 Scholarship from
the Bandera American Legion Post #157 for her essay on the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. We know this is a young lady who will go far and achieve much sucsess.
